HOME presents The Oresteia A radical, stripped back version of Aeschylus' masterful trilogy Translated by Ted Hughes Directed by Blanche McIntyre Fri 23 Oct 2015 – Sat 14 Nov 2015 We have poured out the blood That poisoned this house. Terrible secrets are handed down through the generations in a bloody chain of murder and revenge. The Oresteia, the first great work of theatre written two and a half thousand years ago, is as gripping and relevant as ever. Where is justice in a landscape of blood? Taking the translation by one of the great poets of the twentieth century, Ted Hughes, this swift-moving, newly cut version radically condenses Aeschylus’ epic trilogy into one play. HOME welcomes director Blanche McIntyre (Best Director TMA 2013 UK Theatre Awards; Critics’ Circle Most Promising Newcomer Award), with an ensemble of actors playing multiple roles that cross generations and genders. The central role of the chorus, the voice of the citizens, will be taken by people of Manchester in a radical, stripped back version of Aeschylus’ masterpiece. I am very excited to announce that following a successful audition I will be taking my place as a member of the chorus, the voice of the citizens, in this production of The Oresteia at HOME. The Oresteia - HOME HOME
Formed by the merger of two of Manchester’s best-loved arts organisations, Cornerhouse and the Library Theatre Company, its mission is to make a new HOME for curiosity seekers, for lovers of the dramatic, the digital and the deeply engaging; for radicals and reciprocators. Two new theatres, five cinema screens for independent and art cinema and a gallery space. And a cafe bar. |
