I made these images as an experiment (making use of a freshly-plastered and still-bare room at home) in early-2016. I found a use for them when I needed something fast for the submission for AT NIGHT I LOCK THE DOORS.
I'm wearing one of the dresses used in my 2016 Emergency piece NO MAN IS AN ISLAND, which I originally purchased for LOST | FOUND (2015). At no point was I seriously considering costuming the new work the same as NO MAN. I had photographed myself dancing in the privacy of my own home: a notion not without a connection to the work. The inspiration for these images - what I was trying to achieve and the mix of movement and stillness I was grasping for - is the work of Francesca Woodman, whose images continue to haunt me. |
